Where is Aitutaki?
Aitutaki is a coral atoll in the southern Cook Islands, about 220 km north of Rarotonga in the South Pacific. It consists of a main island and around 15 smaller motu surrounding one of the most celebrated lagoons in the world.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit is during the dry season from April to November, when trade winds keep temperatures comfortable and lagoon conditions are ideal for snorkeling and cruises. December to March is warmer and wetter, but visitor numbers are lower.
Climate
Aitutaki has a warm tropical climate year-round, between 20 and 30°C. The dry season brings steady trade winds and sunny days. The wet season from December to March is more humid with short tropical downpours, mostly in the evenings.
How to Get There
All visitors connect through Rarotonga first. Air Rarotonga operates daily flights to Aitutaki Airport (AIT), taking around 45 minutes. There are no direct international flights. The approach over the lagoon is one of the most spectacular in the Pacific.
