1/1 Natadola Beach along the Coral Coast Viti Levu in Fiji

Viti Levu

Viti Levu is the largest island in Fiji and the beating heart of the country. Home to Nadi, the main international gateway, and Suva, the capital, it is where most visitors to Fiji begin and end their trip. But Viti Levu is far more than a transit stop. Coral reefs, volcanic peaks, lush river valleys, traditional villages, and some of the finest resort beaches in the South Pacific are all here, spread across an island large enough to spend a week exploring without covering the same ground twice.

In 2026, Viti Levu continues to draw travelers seeking the full range of what Fiji has to offer, from the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands accessible by boat from Port Denarau to the surf breaks of the Coral Coast, the adventure capital of Pacific Harbor, and the quieter rhythms of village life in the interior. Fiji's famous hospitality starts here.

Where is Viti Levu?

Viti Levu is the largest island in Fiji, located in the South Pacific about 2,600 km northeast of New Zealand. It is home to Nadi on the west coast and Suva on the southeast, and is surrounded by smaller island groups including the Mamanucas and Yasawas.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is during the dry season from May to October, when humidity is lower, skies are clearer, and conditions are ideal for diving, hiking, and resort stays. November to April is warmer and wetter, with lower prices and lush green scenery.

Climate

Viti Levu has a tropical climate year-round, between 25 and 31°C. The west coast around Nadi is significantly drier than the east, which is why most resorts are concentrated there. The wet season brings occasional tropical storms, mainly December to March.

How to Get There

Most international visitors arrive at Nadi International Airport (NAN) on the west coast, with direct flights from Australia, New Zealand, the US, and several Pacific hubs. A second international airport serves Suva at Nausori (SUV) for regional connections.
